The County of Lancashire Rifle Association’s Cadet Target Rifle Competition
Birkenhead School CCF entered a ten-man team into the CLRA’s Cadet Target Rifle Competition on the 21st and 22nd April 2007. A team of varied experience, led by Petty Officer Cadet Samih Qaisar stormed unexpectedly onto the leader board of some of the shoots to come away with quite a lot of silverware! The first competition, the Formby Cup, was an individual competition, Cadet Cpl Matthew Swift taking the highest placing from Birkenhead School at 2nd place. This competition was followed by the Cadet Pairs- culminating in the award of the Salver Cup. The first pair, Cpl Swift and Cadet Thomas Ince, took the first place with a score of 172 and four V-bulls. The second pair, consisting of CPO Qaisar and Sgt Thomas Lander, ranked at an admirable 7th. Another admirable result was achieved in the third competition, known as the Lancashire Schools Quartet Challenge Cup, a competition for teams of four shooters with the team of CPO Qaisar, Sgt Lander, Cpl Swift and Cdt Ince coming in at 5th place. Finally, a team of eight ranked 1st in the Red Rose Cup competition and 1st in the Centenary Aggregate Cup.

The team performed extremely well and we were all pleased with the amount of silverware we have to add to our cabinet. Congratulations to the whole team which included, CPO Qaisar, Sgt Lander, Cpl Swift, Cdt Ince, Cdt Ramsbottom, Cdt Walsby-Tickle, LHC Macaulay, Cdt Neish, Sgt Barnes and Sgt Thelwell, many of whom were first time competitors with the Cadet Target Rifle.
